Our goal is to provide individuals, regardless of age or language deficiencies, an opportunity to become fluent, independent readers, ready to discover the endless possibilities the world has to offer through words!

The Wilson Reading System is designed for students in grades 2nd grade-adults,that are reading and/or spelling below their expected level or are struggling with the English language in comprehension, spelling, and/or fluency.

Tutors are eager to develop one-on-one relationships with their students. They encourage students to call or email them at home if students have questions or comments. HOT also provides bi-lingual tutors to students that need that language barrier elimated to help the individual easily emerge into the English language.

Students will benefit from the program whether or not they have been diagnosed as dyslexic or with a learning disability in Reading. Below is a list of who this program greatly benefits:

The Wilson Reading Program address all key areas necessary in effective reading instruction during each scheduled session:

· Phonological & Phonemic Awareness:The Wilson tapping procedure for both blending and segmenting of phonemes is used each session. Students practice substitution, addition, and manipulation with card and tiles.

· Phonics/Word Study:Sound-to-symbol and symbol-to-sound correspondence is incorporated into each lesson. Students are directly taught the structure of the English language

· Vocabulary:Targeted vocabulary is selected to correspond with the word structure being studied and its high frequency of use. Words are reviewed frequently and entered into the Student Notebook

· Sight Word Instruction:Students memorize 3 new sight words per weekly session(s) that are chosen according to the American Heritage Word Frequency Book

·Fluency:Students have multiple opportunities to develop quick and automatic word recognition as well as prosody and expression. Fluency Kits include repeated reading practice using controlled text that is 95-100% decodable.

· Handwriting:Gross motor memory and consistent verbal directions are used to teach Level K-1 students manuscript letter formation (TBA), and cursive handwriting in Level 3. Letter formation reinforces sound mastery

· Written Comprehension:Encoding is taught in correspondence to decoding patterns. Students dictate short passages and systematically learn punctuation, capitalization, and proofreading skills.

· Comprehension:The program is designed for more formalized literature instruction

Student(s) grades 2nd -12th, will receive 45 to 90minute, one-on-one or small group tutorial sessions. It is recommended that student(s) receives 3 to 5 sessions weekly, based on reading deficit and/or disability to successfully complete our program in 2-5 years.
